What is the west-coast drive actually like?
You leave the airport southeast, join the motorway, and stay with it until the west turns off toward Flic en Flac. The motorway is the easy part. The last kilometres into the village are slower, with hotels, scooters, and people crossing for the beach. Park once. The lagoon is the point, not a chain of car parks.
Le Morne Brabant is a UNESCO World Heritage peninsula. The public story is the mountain and the lagoon at its foot, not a summit to attempt because a photo looked easy. Kite beaches nearby are windy on purpose. Hold the car door.
How do you split Flic en Flac, Tamarin, and Le Morne?
Book the S-Presso for two, or the Swift if Chamarel is the next morning. The hairpins are described on the Chamarel and gorges page.
| Stop | Role in the day | Time of day |
|---|---|---|
| Flic en Flac | First swim and the overnight base for many arrivals | Arrival afternoon |
| Tamarin | A shorter bay just north, useful at sunset | Late afternoon |
| Le Morne | The postcard peninsula. Beach, not a casual summit | Next morning |
| Chamarel, if energy remains | Only after Le Morne, and only with daylight left | Not the landing day |
